Graphic Design and Art in Germany

June 29 - July 20, 2019

EXPERIENCE GERMANY WITH A FOCUS ON ART AND DESIGN! Experience travel as an artist and see some of the greatest collections of art and design in the birthplace of much of modern design! Apply the introductory art classes  to major collections of art.  Concentrating on museums in Berlin, and traveling to Weimar, Prague, and Munich, explore more of the rich history of the region. While the focus will be on art, you won鈥檛 miss out on the important history left by the devastation of the holocaust.

To enhance your understanding of Art and Design, ART 140 Studio Art Fundamentals and GDP 111 Intro to Graphic Design will be the lens to understand and illustrate the key concepts of modern art and graphic design. Both courses will utilize sketchbooks and Canvas to study the language used by artists and designers. Classroom assignments will be conducted through sketchbook work where you will create your own visual record of your journey, gaining a better understanding of art and art-making.

AS IF THIS ISN鈥橳 ENOUGH... This isn鈥檛 any trip to Germany, 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the BAUHAUS art/design movement.

WHAT IS BAUHAUS? You may not realize it, but your art and design classes are influenced by the Bauhaus art school and movement of the 1920鈥檚. The Bauhaus was the most influential modernist art school of the 20th century, one whose approach to teaching, and understanding art's relationship to society and technology had a major impact both in Europe and the United States. The Bauhaus closed in 1932 after refusing to accommodate the pressures of the Nazi regime. The 100th anniversary promises to be full of once-in-a-lifetime exhibits and celebrations of this important movement.
