Highlights of the nomination include the following:
鈥51福利社 strives to build a socially conscious community where knowledge and respect empower individuals to transform our world. Faculty mentors go beyond the typical teacher-student relationship to form a deeper professional bond with students. Faculty mentors learn about students鈥 goals, help students to frame goals in the academic, workplace, and community settings, advocate for students on campus and in the community, and help each mentee feel belonging at SBCC. This is an asset-based approach that empowers students with tools to apply existing strengths into the educational setting and beyond. When a student learns to identify their strengths and educational goals with the support of a mentor, they gain confidence and empowerment in the educational system and are best equipped to persist through social and educational challenges and to emerge as empowered and prepared global citizens.鈥
